Elephant Arriving in Her New Home

The Elephant Sanctuary in Hohenwald, TN gives old, sick, and needy elephants (usually a former circus performer), a safe place for the rest of their lives.

While I'm restricted by the terms and conditions of this site host from soliciting money for the Sanctuary, you, on your own can visit their web site and learn more and www.elelphants.com.

The elephant is massive. Many weight more than 9000 lbs. It is a sensitive, social, complex and intelligent (see my other post on elephants). It is also endangered.

This Elephant Sanctuary located about 85 miles southwest of Nashville, is the nation's largest natural habitat complete with forests, ponds, streams, a lake, and for cold nights heated barns.

Returning captive elephants to the wild is not an option. The sactuary provide them a life of peace and relative freedom until they die.

I chose one elephant's arrival, Dulary, and how she reacts to the new surrounding and her new friends. For most of these elephants, this is the first time they are unchained.
